Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Stewart.

Jacob, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Co-founders of GMAC, Anthony Jianaces, Josh Messier and myself have been lifelong friends. Always keeping in daily contact, it was easy to keep track of what everyone was up to, how work was going, and keeping up on life challenges.

All deep within our careers: Anthony in Banking, Josh in Project Management and myself in Accounting/Finance; we wanted something more out of life. We wanted to be our own bosses. We wanted to spend more time together and less time going through the daily motions of working to collect a check. We were looking for something more out of our 9 to 5 jobs.

The idea of working together has always been a dream of ours but we weren’t always sure what avenue of business we wanted to pursue. After discussing with many entrepreneurs, we noticed a common theme: business owners loved their product but felt like they spend too much of their time on back office processes to keep the business running. Business owners recognized the more time they spent on their product, the faster they could grow their business. We realized that if we could support the back office of certain businesses, the business owners could focus on what they love, and we can focus on what we were good at.

The idea of GMAC stemmed from the needs of what every business owner requires in the business model- someone to take care of the uninteresting, tedious and number crunching detail, while the business owner can focus on their concept.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When you are doing something you love, it truly never feels like work. Nonetheless, running a business comes with its bumps in the road and detours along the way. We try to embrace the potholes as they come, as every business has their fair share of challenges.

We all have known each other for the majority of our lives; we run on the same cylinders with different backgrounds and experiences, which is the making of a great team. Our toughest challenge so far has been how we manage to balance our friend-work relationship. Sometimes it can feel like we are working together, months on end, and we forget that we are more than just business partners. We are friends first and always will be. So when it feels like work has become our lives, we make it our mission to take trips together or hang out to watch the game just like old times.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GMAC Accounting – what should we know?
GMAC is a full service virtual accounting and bookkeeping firm. We are able to offer cloud accounting and bookkeeping services to small businesses at a fraction of the cost of hiring a traditional “in-house bookkeeper”. We are certified in widely used accounting programs such as QuickBooks and Xero.

We started out offering traditional accounting services, supplementing the back offices of local small businesses. As business operations have progressed into ecommerce, it was evident that small businesses can increase net income by shifting key operations to seamless online systems. GMAC has since evolved into a 100% online cloud and bookkeeping service provider. We work closely with business owners to improve their back office and help them with all areas of bookkeeping, financial planning and tax advice.

We like to think we are a small business for small businesses. Our GMAC team has experience in many areas of business and project management, which helps us relate with our clients. We pride ourselves in getting to know our clients, their products, and their processes, so we can tailor their finances and operations to their needs.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
Boston is our home and we couldn’t imagine ourselves and our families anywhere else. We are all Massachusetts natives who journeyed to the city of champions for its education, eCommerce and lifestyle.

We are all avid Boston sports fans so it is appealing to know that we can leave work at 6:00pm and be at a Sox, B’s, C’s or Pat’s game within minutes. Boston’s most charming aspect is the large group of eager, intelligent, and open minded young professionals who strive for perfection. Boston has a well-known reputation of being a hard working community, which is reflective in our services. Boston also has a reputation of bad drivers, which is why we sold our cars for computers.

We also love Dunkin’. And Tom Brady.
